General Information

Dr. George Drosatos is a Principal Researcher (Researcher Grade B), with the subject "Privacy Technologies in Content Analysis and Retrieval", at the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) of the Athena Research Center (Athena RC) in Xanthi (Greece). He received his diploma thesis in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace (EECE / DUTH), Xanthi (Greece) in 2006. In addition, he acquired a Master’s degree (March 2010) and a PhD degree (December 2013) both from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace. After that, he was an Associate Researcher for more than 7 years, participating in National and European research projects (more than 19 in total). During this period, he conducted postdoctoral research at the School of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace, entitled "Design and development of large-scale algorithms for the exploitation and protection of sensitive medical personal data" and additionally received a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, doing research related to "Evaluating news reliability in social influence networks".

Dr. Drosatos has an interdisciplinary background, and his research interests are mainly focused on privacy-enhancing technologies, information security and biomedical informatics. He has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), the International Hellenic University (IHU) and the Neapolis University of Paphos (NUP). Based on this expertise, he has been an invited speaker in nine (9) scientific events (two of them international), giving talks on federated learning (2), blockchain technology (3), privacy on the internet (3) and the biomedical sector (1). In addition, he is currently a committee member of two scientific journals, guest editor of special issues (10 in total, two of which ran for a second and third year after the success of the first year), organizing committee of scientific conferences, and from March 2023 to March 2025 he served as Secretary General of the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering & Science (EAMBES) in Brussels (Belgium).

Regarding his scientific work, he has over 72 publications in full-text journals and international conferences, with more than 1650 citations, h-index 22 and i10-index 35 in Google Scholar. The full list of publications is given here.
